Have you ever wondered where certain sayings stemmed from? Well, the author of this site certainly has. While visiting the Anne Hathaway House in Victoria, British Columbia; the author of the site was exposed to everyday English sayings that we take for granted.
Navigation is easy – just scroll down the page! The sayings are setup in a table. In the left frame you’ll find the name of the saying, in the right frame you’ll find out how the saying came to be. Some of the sayings you can learn more about by clicking the link provided in their description.
At the bottom of the page, you can navigate to more sayings by clicking the Continued on Next Page link. On the next page you’ll also be able to click into the section AmeriSpeak.
AmeriSpeak is completely different from the Ye Olde Sayings. It has more to do with phrases that have been passed down in your family and clarifying what they probably mean.
You’ll find familiar phrases like: beggars can’t be choosers, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, and you’ll have to pay the piper, just to name a few. Underneath the phrase you’ll see what the site says it means. These are divided up by category and there are several categories to look through.
I thought it was interesting enough to share with the Ye Olde Sayings site! Check them out today!
